I'm Lindsay de Sausmarez and I was elected to be a People's Deputy for the South East in April 2016.
It's been an interesting first week in office... the obvious design flaw - having an even number of deputies - resulted in two draws in a row in the voting for the first position of President of Policy & Resources... The role eventually went to Gavin St. Pier after a spoilt paper broke the deadlock.
Day 2 was no less eventful, from my point of view, at least: I was one of four people nominated by Dep St. Pier for a position on P&R, but I was beaten from the floor in the end by a bloke with a much better moustache. Fair play to him.
Here are some of those who supported my election campaign...
HSSD Minister & Deputy for the South East
"More than anything our district and island needs elected representatives who are competent, capable, compassionate and resolute. Lindsay delivers all these attributes, and even more importantly she cares, and will work tirelessly for the South East and our island."
Environmentalist & Founder of Guernsey Organic Growers
“I believe that Lindsay is completely committed to representing our community and will be a great asset to the States of Guernsey.”
Director at First Names Group & St. Andrew's Douzainier
"I have known Lindsay for many years and am delighted that she has decided to stand as a Deputy. I believe that if Guernsey is to have a sustainable future we need more people with Lindsay's drive, enthusiasm and ability to get the right things done for the right reasons."
Financial Services Expert & Former President of the Guernsey Chamber of Commerce
“Lindsay is an exciting, new and highly capable candidate: she is an excellent communicator who displays thoughtfulness, imagination, a strong work ethic and a 'can do' attitude. She bridges effectively the perceived gap between business interests and social conscience.”
Headteacher, St. Martin's Primary School
"Lindsay has been the driving force behind St Martin's School's active travel policy: she has worked tirelessly to encourage our children to walk or cycle to school and to improve road safety in the area. This valuable contribution to our school community reflects Lindsay's excellent communication skills, her energy and her dedication to a sustainable Guernsey."
Creative Apprentice, Specsavers
"Lindsay understands the importance of widening opportunities for young people on the island. She is extremely open minded and approachable when it comes to hearing people's problems and opinions. She also loves cake."
