I stand for...
The definition of politics is “of, for and relating to citizens”, and this is what motivates me to stand for the role of People’s Deputy.
I've always been politically engaged and have done huge amounts of research on topics that I care about. Listening to some of the debates over the past ten years or so I have come to realise that often the people making the decisions that count aren't as well-informed as they could be. I believe I would have a lot to contribute and I know I would work incredibly hard.
I value economic sustainability, social sustainability and environmental sustainability.
I value and respect other people's opinions, even when they contradict my own. I believe consensus government can be very effective - but I would work to bring a more constructive tone to local politics than we've seen lately. I want to bring people and purposes together.
Ultimately, I value the people of Guernsey, our way of life, our history and our future. We are an island of people spanning many different backgrounds, interests, incomes, origins, abilities and ages, and for me it's important that the States recognises all this in a spirit of inclusion.
If elected, I will put people at the heart of each and every carefully considered decision. I will strive for efficiency and value for money – but not at the expense of quality of life or social cohesion.
Our community is our island’s core strength and I’m prepared to work tirelessly to achieve the very best for every generation in Guernsey, to ensure it's an island our children can love and be proud of.
Guernsey's political system is unique: we are governed not just through our parliament but by our parliament as well, meaning our deputies have a responsibility not just for deciding on policy but also in ensuring that it is carried out. Our politicians have a duty to be both thinkers and doers.
Another important duty is representation. Everyone's opinions vary to some degree - that's a healthy element of any democracy - but a good deputy is someone you can trust to listen to opinions other than their own, and then make sensible, balanced and well-informed decisions based on consistent values and sound judgement.
